Israeli police have announced the arrest of two key advisers to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Yonatan Urich and Eli Feldstein, as part of an ongoing probe into alleged unlawful connections between senior officials and Qatar.
In a brief statement to the media, law enforcement confirmed that both individuals were taken into custody on Monday as part of the investigation, which is being handled by the Lahav 433 national crimes unit in collaboration with the Shin Bet.
Details surrounding the case remain scarce due to a court-imposed gag order.
However, the inquiry reportedly stems from accusations against Feldstein, Netanyahu’s former spokesperson, who has been charged in a separate case with compromising national security by allegedly stealing and leaking classified IDF documents.
Investigators are now looking into claims that, while working in the Prime Minister’s Office, Feldstein was also engaged by an international firm hired by Qatar to promote pro-Qatar narratives in Israeli media.
Additionally, past reports from November indicated that Urich and another Netanyahu adviser, Yisrael Einhorn, had been involved in public relations efforts on behalf of Qatar ahead of the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
