An Israeli airstrike in Nabatiyeh, southern Lebanon, has resulted in the deaths of at least ten people, all Syrian nationals.
According to CNN, the Lebanese Ministry of Health confirmed in a statement Saturday morning, noting that the casualties include a woman and her two children.
Additionally, the strike has left five individuals injured, two of whom are in critical condition—three Syrians, one Sudanese, and one Lebanese.
The critically injured are receiving surgery at a nearby hospital.
The Israeli military reported that the attack targeted a Hezbollah weapons storage facility in Nabatiyeh.
This incident marks one of the deadliest in southern Lebanon since Israel began its military campaign against Gaza in response to the Hamas attacks on October 7, which resulted in approximately 1,200 fatalities.
Since the onset of the conflict, Hezbollah and Israeli forces have engaged in near-daily cross-border exchanges, which have contributed to a staggering death toll of over 40,000 Palestinians in the past ten months.
Tensions have further escalated following an Israeli strike on Beirut late in July which killed Hezbollah’s top military commander, Fu’ad Shukr.
The day after, Israel is widely believed to have targeted Hamas’ political leader in Tehran, though it has neither confirmed nor denied its involvement.
These developments have sparked speculation about potential retaliatory actions from Hezbollah and Iran.
According to intelligence sources cited by CNN, Hezbollah might act independently of Iranian plans due to Lebanon’s proximity to Israel. This could result in sudden and significant escalations.
On the diplomatic front, talks on hostages and a truce have concluded but are set to resume next week.
International mediators have proposed a new plan to address the remaining disagreements between Israel and Gaza.
