The Imo State Police Command has apprehended a 27-year-old woman, Oluchi Nzemechi, from Ikeduru Local Government Area, for allegedly stabbing her boyfriend, Kelechi Nzemechi, to death during a dispute over the division of proceeds from their cybercrime activities, commonly known as Yahoo Yahoo.
Spokesperson for the State Police Command, ASP Henry Okoye, explained that the suspect confessed to the crime.
Oluchi detailed how her boyfriend had introduced her to cybercrime, leading to their successful scam of an Indonesian victim for 250 million rupiah.
However, an argument erupted over how to split the money, resulting in Oluchi stabbing Kelechi with a kitchen knife.
In an attempt to divert suspicion, Oluchi wrote a note and placed it beside Kelechi’s body, stating, “You think you can eat my money and go free? I am baba for the boys. I am coming for your wife and your child, including your family,” before fleeing the scene.
Further interrogation revealed that Oluchi had been cohabitating with Kelechi since 2019 and that they had a child together.
The police have initiated procedures to recover the 250 million rupiah with the intention of returning it to its rightful owner.
Okoye confirmed that Oluchi is undergoing investigation at the State Criminal Investigation Department and will face court proceedings soon.
“The suspect is currently undergoing investigation at the State Criminal Investigation Department and will certainly be arraigned in court,” the PPRO states.
