An airport employee of the Nigerian Immigration Service, Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos Command, has found some missing belongings as well as $5,000 that belonged to a foreign traveler.
According to Nairametrics, it was reported that a source stated that over the weekend,no less than $5,000, credit cards, and an identification number card of a foreign passenger who has not yet been identified were retrieved at the command’s Visa on Arrival point in the terminal’s E-Wing Arrival area.
Other foreign cash was also retrieved by the police, in addition to the dollar currency.
The source identified the officer as Chief Immigration Assistant, Omodayo Odewenwa, who had just been transferred from the Ikoyi Passport office to the Lagos International Airport.
According to the information obtained, the materials were found on the floor near the VoA hall of the terminal in a folder wallet.
The command elevated the matter by emailing the apparent owner, but at the time this report was filed, it had not yet gotten a response from the person who claimed to be the owner of the products.
According to the informant, “One of our officers retrieved a folder last Sunday at the VoA E-Arrival Wing of the terminal that contained multiple foreign dollars, credit cards, an ID card, and other important items purportedly belonging to a foreigner. As soon as he returned with these materials, he told his superior at the terminal, who acted right away.
“Up to this point, we have escalated the situation by emailing the alleged owner to come get his belongings, but we have not heard anything. But we are optimistic that he will respond when it is right. On the document, there was no phone number so it is very challenging for us to communicate with him.
The MMIA Command’s NIS Comptroller, Mrs. Adeola Adesokan, however, verified the development to our correspondent over the phone.
She praised the officer for acting honorably, emphasized that command members have been continuously exposed to operational and attitude reforms in recent years, and gave the assurance that the command would continue to carry out its mandated duties with the utmost professionalism and dignity of purpose.
The comptroller reminded the public to always communicate with immigration officials with confidence by adding, “We are here to serve you.”
