The Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, is set to unveil the first online portal for passport application in Abuja.
According to The PUNCH, he revealed this news during a demonstration session held on Friday, where he showcased the online platform alongside the Comptroller General of the Nigeria Immigration Service, Caroline Adepoju.
Tunji highlighted the establishment of an online passport application platform, catering to both international and Nigerian applicants.
In December, the minister had previously announced the Federal Government’s efforts towards achieving a complete automation system for passport applications across the country.
At the time, the minister said the automated application system was “99 per cent done,” adding that the process would include uploading passport photos and supporting documents.
According to the Minister, Nigerian applicants opting for 32-page passports valid for five years will be charged N25,000, whereas those seeking 64-page passports valid for 10 years will pay N70,000.
Meanwhile, foreign applicants desiring passports valid for five years with 32 pages will incur a fee of $130, while those preferring passports valid for 10 years with 64 pages will pay $230.
All applicants must submit their applications through the official portal at https://passport.immigration.gov.ng.
