Former First Lady of Ondo State, Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu, has expressed that her late husband, Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, might still be alive if he had followed her advice.
In an exclusive interview with StarNews Publisher, Olumide Akinrinlola, published on Thursday, Mrs. Anyanwu-Akeredolu shared her experience of surviving breast cancer 27 years ago, attributing her recovery to seeking medical treatment instead of relying on spiritual interventions.
Governor Akeredolu, who passed away on December 23, 2023, battled prostate cancer before his death.
Reflecting on their differences in approach, the former First Lady described her husband as deeply religious while stating that she had a different perspective.
Asked if she rejected spiritual help during Akeredolu’s illness, she responded, “What came out of their mountain climbing, ‘blessed’ handkerchiefs, water, olive oil, etc., from the GOs and all the noisy prayers like people possessed by demons? If Aketi had listened to me, I wouldn’t be a widow.”
Commenting on the current state of Ondo’s governance under Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, Mrs. Anyanwu-Akeredolu criticized the administration as “rudderless.”
When questioned about allegations that the finance commissioner was in control of the government, she said, “No comments. However, it’s worth noting that this same commissioner was sacked from her position during Aketi’s first administration. You can connect the dots as to why Lucky brought her back. We are watching.”
Mrs. Anyanwu-Akeredolu also confirmed her intention to pursue her senatorial ambition, signaling her continued involvement in politics.
