The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission has arrested Adam Yusuf, a Deputy Commandant of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps in Kogi State, over alleged involvement in a multi-billion naira corruption scheme.
ICPC spokesperson Demola Bakare confirmed Yusuf’s arrest in a statement on Friday, revealing that he had been evading law enforcement before being apprehended at his residence in Gwagwalada, Abuja.
“The suspect had been on the run, but our operatives successfully tracked him down,” Bakare said. “He is now in custody and will be prosecuted accordingly.”
The commission also disclosed that its investigation uncovered an elaborate scheme allegedly orchestrated by a former Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Usman Jibrin (rtd.), in collaboration with ex-Brigadier General Ishaya Bauka Gangum.
“The investigation revealed a sophisticated plan led by Vice Admiral Usman Jibrin and Brigadier General Ishaya Bauka Gangum (rtd.),” the ICPC statement read. “Over N3 billion in public funds was allegedly siphoned through 92 fictitious companies, none of which were registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC).”
Further findings indicated that the misappropriated funds were funneled into private companies, including Lahab Integrated and Gate Coast Properties, to acquire over 18 properties, such as multiple filling stations.
“So far, four of these properties have been forfeited to the government,” Bakare stated. “Legal proceedings are ongoing for the remaining assets, and efforts are being intensified to apprehend other suspects who are still at large.”
The ICPC reaffirmed its commitment to tackling financial crimes, vowing to ensure that all individuals involved in the fraudulent scheme are brought to justice.
