The Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company has issued a stern warning against energy theft, urging customers to avoid illegal activities such as meter tampering and unauthorized connections, which hinder efficient service delivery.
In a statement released on Tuesday, IBEDC’s Managing Director, Francis Agoha, assured customers of the company’s commitment to maintaining a steady power supply during the festive season while prioritizing public safety.
“Energy theft, including meter tampering and illegal connections, is a serious offence that affects our ability to deliver quality service and undermines community development,” the statement read.
“We encourage customers to report any suspicious activities promptly to help us address this issue.”
To ensure an uninterrupted power supply during the holidays, IBEDC revealed that it has taken steps to enhance network stability and respond swiftly to faults.
“We understand the increased demand for electricity during the holidays and have put measures in place to meet customer needs,” Agoha added. “Our teams are fully prepared to respond to any service disruptions quickly.”
The company also emphasized the importance of safety, cautioning customers against tampering with electrical installations, which could lead to serious injuries or fatalities.
“We urge everyone to prioritize safety and avoid hazardous practices, such as cooking under power lines,” Agoha stated.
IBEDC advised customers to take advantage of secure online payment platforms, including the IBEDCPAY app, Quickteller, and Payarena, to ensure seamless electricity access.
Additionally, the company announced that its offices will remain open throughout the holiday period to handle inquiries, process bill payments, and provide vending services.
Expressing gratitude for customer support throughout the year, Agoha concluded, “We wish all our customers a Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year filled with peace, joy, and progress.”
