Newly crowned African Player of the Year, Victor Osimhen, has stated that he was not treated badly by his club, Napoli.
He stated this while addressing the controversies trailing his speculated treatment by Italian champions Napoli following a viral video trolling him early in the season.
A video shared on TikTok mocked a Nigerian forward after he missed a penalty in a game against Udinese.
The video, suggesting a racist intent, has been strongly criticized by the club.
According to the striker, this was the action of ‘a foolish individual’ who has been appropriately addressed.
Osimhen further mentioned his positive relationship with the club and highlighted the consistent support he receives from president Aurelio De Laurentiis.
“First of all, I have to correct an impression here. I was not treated badly by Napoli or Aurelio de Laurentiis. This was, sorry to use the word, stupid mistake, by an individual who thinks you can use search a thing to joke at the crucial moment,” he said at the presser following his CAF Player of the Year award.
“I was not happy about it but of course, De Laurentiis stood with me and made sure they see to the matter and the individual was dealt with,” he added.
