Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, has officially lifted the curfew that had been in place across the state, restoring freedom of movement for residents.
The curfew, which was previously enforced from 6 pm to 8 am in Kaduna and Zaria towns, has now been completely removed, effective Tuesday, August 13, 2024.
This decision followed an in-depth evaluation of the security situation by the Kaduna State Security Council, chaired by Governor Sani.
The Acting Commissioner of the Ministry of Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, confirmed the development in a statement issued on Tuesday in Kaduna.
He said, “After an extensive review of the security situation in Kaduna and Zaria towns and their environs, the Kaduna State Security Council under the leadership of Governor Uba Sani has removed the current 6 pm to 8 am curfew completely. The removal of the curfew is effective immediately, from today Tuesday, 13th August 2024.”
With the curfew lifted, all law-abiding residents are now permitted to move freely and engage in their daily activities without any time restrictions in Kaduna and Zaria and their surrounding areas.
The statement highlighted that the Security Council had convened an emergency meeting the night before, during which it unanimously agreed that the curfew was no longer necessary.
This reflects the Council’s continued dedication to maintaining the security and well-being of the state’s citizens.
In addition, the Security Council emphasized the need for proper verification with relevant authorities for any planned processions or public gatherings, to prevent disruptions to public order and ensure the safety of the general populace.
The statement further mentioned that security forces would remain vigilant, monitoring for any potential threats to peace.
Any individuals or groups found engaging in activities that could disturb public order will face prosecution.
During the briefing, Sani lauded the efforts of security agencies, as well as religious and traditional leaders, and other key stakeholders, for their contributions to restoring peace in the aftermath of the protests that had escalated in Kaduna and Zaria.
