The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board has revealed how one can identify an authentic admission from the examination body.
According to JAMB, any admission not captured in its Central Admission Processing System is illegal, null, and void.
The News Agency of Nigeria reported that the Registrar of JAMB, Prof Ishaq Oloyede, made this disclosure while speaking during the 3rd matriculation ceremony of the Thomas Adewumi University Oko, Irepodun Local Government Area of Kwara State.
Oloyede, who was represented by an Assistant Director of JAMB, Mr. Ganiyu Yahaya, stated that “For any admission into tertiary institutions, it has to be done through CAPS, which is on the JAMB portal.
“Any admission outside the CAPS, irrespective of the institution, is illegal. And I think this point is very important,” he stated.
This clarification by JAMB’s boss follows a recent controversy between the examination body and an Anambra state student, Mmesoma Ejikeme.
Mmesoma, a 19-year-old, made news headlines after she posted a controversial Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination result of 362 on the internet, parading herself as the highest scorer before the exam body countered her claims stating that her original score was 249.
The development attracted reactions from different quarters, and the Anambra State government, for this reason, set up a Committee of Inquiry to look into the case of inflation of UTME results levied against Mmesoma.
JAMB had come under fire for declaring the student’s result fake and naming her a fraud.
However, Mmesoma eventually confessed to having forged her results unaided and the N3 million scholarship from Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing has been withdrawn.
