A Nigerian national living in Delhi, India recently attempted suicide after receiving news of his parents’ death in an accident in Nigeria, according to a statement by Delhi Police on Sunday.
The victim, identified as Ndinojuo, allegedly jumped from the second floor of a building in outer Delhi’s Nihal Vihar area on March 18th. He was later found injured and pleading for assistance by onlookers, who called the police.
According to the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Outer) Harendra Kumar Singh, Ndinojuo was rushed to Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Hospital, where he received medical treatment.
In his police statement, the victim said that he suffered from depression and was distressed upon learning of his parents’ death. He reportedly jumped from the building in an attempt to take his own life.
Police also recorded statements from neighbors, who confirmed the victim’s statement. They further added that no foul play was suspected in the case. Ndinojuo is currently recovering from his injuries.
