Legendary Hollywood actor, Robert De Niro, has proudly announced that he has become a father for the seventh time, adding another chapter to his illustrious life.
During an interview with ET Canada to discuss his upcoming film “About My Father,” the 79-year-old Oscar-winning actor revealed the joyous news. When asked about being a dad of six, De Niro corrected, “Seven, actually… I just had a baby.”
The celebrated actor, known for his iconic roles in “The Godfather, Part II” and “Raging Bull,” did not disclose the identity of the mother of his newborn.
De Niro already has six children from previous relationships with three different women.
Despite his stardom, the Hollywood veteran acknowledges that he may not always be the “cool father,” admitting that his children occasionally disagree with him.
However, he cherishes the relationship with his kids and appreciates the love and respect they share.
“I don’t think I’ve ever been a cool father,” said De Niro, when quizzed further about his own experiences of fatherhood. “I’m OK. My kids disagree with me at times, they’re respectful.
“My daughter is 11 and she gives me grief sometimes and I argue with her and adore her.”
He added: “With my youngest now there will be more to come but that’s, you know – that’s what it is.”
As a seasoned parent, De Niro understands the complexities of raising children and acknowledges that being firm is sometimes necessary.
While he prefers not to lay down the law, he recognizes that as a parent, there are moments when it becomes unavoidable.
He said; “I mean, there’s no way around it with kids. I don’t like to have to lay down the law and stuff like that. But you just have no choice,” he said.
“And any parent, I think, would say the same thing. You always want to do the right thing by the children and give them the benefit of the doubt but sometimes you can’t.”
Recent rumors have linked De Niro to martial arts instructor Tiffany Chen, although neither of them has publicly addressed their relationship. The actor, who has been married twice and is also a proud grandfather, remains discreet about his personal life.
De Niro’s children include two with actress and singer Diahnne Abbott, whom he adopted, as well as twin sons with actress Toukie Smith, and a son and daughter with socialite and philanthropist Grace Hightower.
