Tragedy struck along the Sagamu-Benin Expressway as a yet-to-be-identified driver hit a 22-year-old female pedestrian identified as Elizabeth James.
The incident, which occurred at 9:40 pm on Sunday night around Dalof Filling Station claimed the life of Elizabeth.
Confirming the sad event, the Ogun State Police Command’s Spokesman, Omolola Odutola, revealed that the vehicle was traveling from the Ijebu-Ode axis towards the Sagamu interchange when it hit both male and female pedestrians.
While Elizabeth tragically lost her life, the male pedestrian sustained injuries and both were rushed to Live Well Hospital in Sagamu for treatment.
”Unfortunately, a 22-year-old female pedestrian named Elizabeth James from Sagamu died at the hospital,” she said.
The police spokesperson added that her body has been transferred to Fakoya Mortuary in Sagamu.
“Police visited the accident scene with traffic authorities, collected evidence, and are currently investigating. Further updates will be provided,” Odutola said.
The incident serves as a grim reminder of the dangers pedestrians face along busy highways, emphasizing the need for drivers to exercise caution and vigilance at all times.
