The capital of Benue State, Makurdi, experienced flooding on Monday as a result of an almost 12-hour-long downpour.
According to PUNCH METRO, the rain, which started as a light shower around 10 p.m. on Sunday, became more intense about 4 a.m. on Monday and continued until about 10 a.m.
It was discovered that this led to flooding in places including Wurukum, Achusa, and several sections of Gboko Road.
Further information revealed that Joseph Sarwuan Tarka University, formerly Federal University of Agriculture, Makurdi students were left stuck on Monday morning because they were unable to access the road leading to the institution.
The president of the FUAM student union, Mimidoo Gundu, bemoaned the circumstance and urged prompt action.
She said, “This (Monday) morning, water blocked the road that links SRS Junction to Joseph Sarwuan Tarka University, Makurdi around Antsa and Ichwa respectively.
“This has been a huge obstacle for staff members and students to get to school and it is very disheartening. I urge the federal/state government and the school management to look into this problem before it gets worse and damages the road.”
Additionally, Tony, a resident of Achusa, claimed that his home had flooded and that all of his belongings were soggy.
He said, “We even heard of an impending flooding due to the release of water from Ladgo dam in Cameroon. If we are already inside water now, what will happen when the main flood comes?”
