No fewer than three people have been reportedly killed by yet-to-be-identified gunmen in Anambra State.
According to The PUNCH, a vigilante officer, Shaba and two of his orderlies were at a bar in Nkwo Market at Igboukwu in Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State when the gunmen opened fire on them.
The attackers reportedly drove to the bar, exited their vehicle, and opened fire on the vigilante’s two orderlies at the establishment’s entrance before entering and killing the cop.
There were reports that the vigilante cop was a member of the Ebubeagu group terrorizing towns in the South-East, while others said that the killing was carried out by members of a kidnapping ring whose leader had been apprehended by Shaba’s team a few days prior.
Confirming the incident, the state police spokesman, Tochukwu Ikenga, said a deliberate operation has been set in place to apprehend the attackers, adding that surveillance has been intensified within the area.
“There is a deliberate operation ongoing now aimed at apprehending the attackers. Meanwhile, patrols have been intensified within Aguata and its environs. Further development shall be communicated please,” he added.
