A police inspector was killed, and two others, including another officer and an expatriate, were injured when gunmen ambushed quarry workers in Edo State’s Owan East Local Government Area.
According to The PUNCH, the attack occurred on Thursday at Ihievbe-Ogben as the workers were returning to their base camp after completing the day’s work.
Eyewitnesses said the gunmen opened fire on the group, leading to the tragic death of one officer and injuries to the others.
Confirming the incident, a resident said, “The gunmen ambushed the workers and shot at them as they were heading back to camp. Unfortunately, one police inspector lost his life, and another officer, along with an expatriate, sustained injuries.”
Both the injured police officer and the expatriate are currently receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital, according to local sources.
