Gunmen kill Gombe Islamic cleric
An Islamic Scholar in Gombe State, Sheikh Ibrahim H Musa Albani Kuri has been killed by unknown gunmen suspected to be robbers on Wednesday morning.
The Gombe State Police Command’s Spokesperson, ASP Mahid Mu’azu Abubakar, confirmed the incident while speaking with journalists.
Sheikh Albani Kuri was said to be brutally murdered by the heartless thieves who invaded his house located in the Tabra area along the bypass in the Gombe metropolis.
The PPRO said, “Yes, there was a reported attack on the residence of Sheikh Ibrahim Albani by unidentified gunmen, they are not assassins as widely speculated by people. They were suspected armed robbers.”
He added that “According to his wife, the attackers, who were 4 and wore masks to cover their faces, demanded money and other things. It was in the struggle that he was stabbed in the stomach leading to his bleeding to death.”
Abubakar promised that the Command is on the trail of the suspects as the Commissioner of Police, Oqua Etim, has directed for full-scale investigation to apprehend the gunmen and make them to face the full wrath of law
Meanwhile, Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, has received with deep sorrow the tragic death of an esteemed Islamic scholar, Sheikh Ibrahim H Musa Albani Kuri, who was brutally murdered by heartless thieves who invaded his house located in the Tabra area along the bypass in Gombe in the wee hours.
The Governor, who attended the funeral prayer of the deceased Cleric at the Bolari Izala Mosque in Gombe on Wednesday, strongly condemned the heartless hoodlums, saying he has shaken the sense of security and prevailing peace Gombe State has been enjoying.
He said, “We want to reassure the citizens of Gombe State that the government remains resolute in its efforts to uphold the safety and security of its people. We will continue to take comprehensive measures and apply the superiority of our force to clear and flush our criminals in any part of the state, as well as bring those responsible for this heinous crime to justice to prevent such incidents from recurring.”
He added that “The memory of Sheikh Ibrahim Albani Kuri will serve as a reminder that we must remain vigilant and steadfast in our pursuit of a society where everyone can live in peace and without fear.”
The Governor then called on the people of the state to continue to come together in solidarity and always uphold the values of empathy and unity that our religious leaders tirelessly preach and promote.
He said that “The entire state mourns the loss of this scholar and preacher whose teachings and guidance have touched the lives of countless Muslims.”
Inuwa Yahaya said that the late Sheikh Ibrahim was a fountain of knowledge, understanding, and unity whose teachings transcended boundaries and brought people together. His loss, he said, will be deeply felt by all, and his legacy will forever inspire the people.
The Governor, on behalf of the government and people of Gombe State, conveyed his heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased and the Jama’atu Izalatil Bid’ah wa Iqamatissunnah as well as the entire Muslim Ummah over the sad event.
He prayed to Almighty Allah to accept his shahadah and grant him Aljannat Firdaus, as contained in a statement by Ismaila Uba Misilli, Director-General ( Press Affairs), Government House, Gombe.
