Four people were killed in a shooting by gunmen in the Ekpan neighborhood of the Uvwie local government area of Delta State.
The state police’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Bright Edafe, told the Vanguard that unidentified gunmen in a Toyota Highlander opened fire at random in the busy neighborhood of Ekpan in the early hours of Christmas day.
He added that two people died at the scene, and two more died later on Monday at the hospital.
He refuted speculations that it was a cult war that had been spread in various circles.
”We are not aware of any cult war in Ekpan. It was random shooting by some persons in a Toyota Highlander. Two persons died on the spot while another two died today .”
In addition, he maintained that it was untrue that anyone was killed at the shooting in Sapele, noting that there had been firing there but no one had reported being killed to the police.
The police spokesperson continued by saying that they were keeping an eye on the security situation in Ekpan and other areas of the state.
