Gunmen suspected to be bandits, have attacked and kidnapped the Sarkin Gobir of Gatawa district, Alhaji Isa Muhammad Bawa, along with his biological son on the Sokoto/Sabon Birni road.
Spokesperson for the State Police Command, ASP Ahmed Rufa’i, while confirming the incident, stated that special operatives are actively pursuing the abductors.
The victim’s elder son, Alhaji Isa Sarkin Gobir, confirmed the attack.
He recounted that the district head was ambushed at Kwanar Maharba while traveling from Sokoto to Sabon Birni, the headquarters of Sabon Birni local government area.
Upon sighting the emir’s vehicle, the bandits opened fire, causing the vehicle’s tires to burst.
This led the driver, who is the district head’s biological son, to lose control and the vehicle to come to a sudden stop. The bandits then abducted both the district head and his son.
Alhaji Isa urgently appealed to the government to take all necessary actions to secure the release of the victims.
Local sources in Sabon Birni have reported that the incident has caused significant outrage and concern among residents, who are demanding immediate action from the authorities.
On the same day, an additional five people were kidnapped in the Sabon Birni area.
“This is happening as the security challenges in Nigeria continue to worsen, despite efforts by authorities to address the situation,” one resident remarked.
