Gunmen have reportedly kidnapped an unspecified number of schoolchildren in Emure Local Government of Ekiti State on Monday evening.
However, the details of the incident are still sketchy, it was learned that the abducted children were said to be students of a yet- to-be disclosed School.
It was learned that the students who were being conveyed in their school bus were kidnapped at the Eporo-Ekiti boundar.
The number of students in the kidnappers’ den is yet unknown and the police is yet to confirm the incident.
When contacted for details by Punch Metro, Ektit State Police Command Public Relations Officer, Abutu Sunday, did not pick calls and yet to reply to a text messages sent to him as the time of filing this report.
The incident followed the killing of two traditional rulers in the state; the Onimojo of Imojo Ekiti, Oba Olatunde Samuel Olusola and the Elesun of Esun Ekiti, Oba David Babatunde Ogunsola were killed in an ambush by armed men while returning from a meeting. The third traditional ruler, the Alara of Ara –Ekiti, Oba Adebayo Fatoba escaped the attack.
Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, who condemned the barbaric act, ordered security operatives in the state to fish out the killers of the two traditional rulers and assured the people of the state that the government would spare nothing to get to the root of the matter.
