The gunmen who abducted scores of train passengers at the Tom Ikimi Train Station in Igueben, Edo State have requested the sum of N20 million each to free the abductees.
Punch Metro reported that at least 32 train passengers were abducted by gunmen while at least six have either been freed or rescued by security forces.
However, 72 hours after the attack which took place on Saturday, the Executive Director, Esan Youth for Good Governance and Social Justice, Benson Odia, on Monday, said the alleged kidnappers who abducted passengers at the Tom Ikimi Train Station in Igueben had made contact with some families of the victims.
Odia said that the demand was ridiculous and urged the authorities to step up efforts to free the kidnapped people who are still being kept hostage.
He said, “I can tell you that the kidnappers have demanded N20 million, totalling N620 million. This is absurd and I don’t know where poor people will be able to raise that amount of money.”
