The Chairman of the Abia State Independent Electoral Commission Prof. George Chima, has been abducted by gunmen in Okigwe, Imo State.
Chima was reportedly kidnapped on Friday while hosting guests at his residence.
According to The PUNCH, a family source revealed that the professor was entertaining lecturers from Abia State University, Uturu when four armed men stormed his home, harassed his visitors, and took him away.
The spokesperson for the Imo State Police Command, DSP Henry Okoye, stated that security operatives were actively pursuing the kidnappers.
“Yes, we are aware of the abduction of the professor, and we have commenced investigations,” Okoye said.
“The Commissioner of Police, Aboki Danjuma, has personally led a team to Okigwe to track down the criminals. We are assuring the public that we will bring the perpetrators to justice.”
