Five individuals lost their lives when a gunman attacked a elderly care home in Croatia on Monday, according to reports from the national broadcaster.
The incident occurred in Daruvar, a town situated approximately 75 miles east of Zagreb, where a man armed with a firearm entered a private elderly care facility and opened fire on those inside, as reported by Croatian Radiotelevision.
All five victims died on the spot, and the number of injured remains unclear, according to HRT.
The state news agency HINA indicated that some of the wounded are currently receiving medical treatment.
The shooter fled the scene but was subsequently apprehended near a café, HINA reported.
The investigation continues, with police withholding further details at this time, according to HRT.
“We are appalled by the murder of five people” in the elderly care home, stated Croatia’s Prime Minister Andrej Plenković on social media.
“We express our condolences to the families of the victims and hope for the recovery of the wounded. I expect the competent authorities to determine all the circumstances of the terrible crime,” Plenković said.
The Prime Minister also mentioned that Deputy Prime Minister Davor Božinović, Health Minister Vili Beroš, and Social Policy Minister Marin Piletić are en route to Daruvar.
