Gombe police arrest two susGombe State Police Command has stated that it arrested two suspects in connection with 57 adulterated bags of rice mixed with the chaff.
This was made known in a statement by State Police Command’s Spokesperson, ASP Sharif Sa’ad, on Wednesday.
He identified the two suspects as Bashir Haruna, aged 35, of Dubai quarters Gombe and Mohammed Isah, aged 54, of Jibulu quarters Kumo, noting that duo have confessed to mixing several bags containing this mixture and selling them.
“On 24th February 2024, at about 11:00 am, policemen from Akko Division, acting on credible intelligence, intercepted and arrested the above-mentioned suspects in possession of 57 bags of mixed chaff, i.e rice and chaff, with the intent to deceive the public and sell it as rice at market price.
During interrogation, the suspects confessed to mixing several bags containing this mixture and selling them,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, CP Hayatu Usman, has directed that the two suspects be charged in court and advised the general public to be careful and vigilant when buying grains in sacks to avoid falling victim to such scams.
