The popular Ikorodu road in Lagos State has been forced into an emergency standstill after a taker laden with gas leaked its content in the Stadium area of the state
Emergency responders of the Lagos State Government are currently at the scene and have cordoned off the area to keep people away from the tanker until it empties its content.
This has led to a massive gridlock around the Barracks – Ojuelegba are of the state down to Onipanu.
Commuters heading toward Stadium from Costain are also affected by the gridlock.
Reports revealed that the traffic has extended beyond Onipanu to the Anthonyarea of the state forced.
As a result, commercial bus drivers, popularly called Danfo, have increased bus fare.
Our correspondent, who was at the scene of the leak, gathered that bus conductors raised fare by around 50% as bus to Ketu/Ojota increased to N700 from around N400/N500 while Onipanu/Palmgroove fare increase from aroun N200 to N400.
Confirming the incident, the Director of the service, Adeseye Margaret, said, “While the Agency was alerted at 09:04hours Saturday, the Ilupeju Fire Station with their quick response ameliorated the situation with a chemical foam compound to forestall ignition and any eventuality of a secondary emergency.
“This incident had led to the diversion of traffic as other emergency responders have teamed up with the State Fire and Rescue to avert disaster as traffic were diverted from the Barracks end and Stadium section of Western Avenue.
“There is no record of casualty, and update will follow as the situation unfolds.”
