A Cross River Local Government Chairman, Hon. (Chief) Ada Charles Egwu, has condemned the selling of flammables (consumable gas) in residential areas.
Egwu, according to the News Agency of Nigeria, said this while on a condolence visit, on the behalf of the Cross River State Governor, Ben Ayade, to the families of victims in a recent gas explosion in Adim community of Biase Local Government Area.
The LG chairman said although the incident was an unfortunate one having claimed eight lives including a two-year-old baby and leaving others hospitalized, it ought to serve as a lesson to others who are in the habit of selling flammable materials within congested residential areas.
She, however, consoled the family of the deceased assuring them that the government will continue to support them.
She said, “We are here on behalf of the Cross River State Government to commiserate with the family members of the deceased and to show that the Governor Ben Ayade-led administration cares about their welfare.
“The fire disaster was an unfortunate incident considering the number of persons killed, properties destroyed and other persons affected directly or indirectly.
“This unfortunate and ugly incident is an eye-opener for people to know the fact that selling flammable materials within a populated place is not the best”
