The Rivers State Police Command has confirmed that the state Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has fulfilled his promise to redeem the N100 million bounty on notorious cult leader Gift Okpara, also known as 2Baba.
According to The PUNCH, Okpara and his gang were responsible for the killing of Divisional Police Officer, Superintendent Bako Angbashin, in the Oduemude area of the state.
State Commissioner of Police, Olatunji Disu, announced this development during a ceremony held in honor of the slain DPO at the state police headquarters on Saturday.
He also noted that the slain officer’s body had been handed over to his family.
Disu stated, “On March 25, 2024, the police killed the wanted cult leader during a raid in his hideout in the Idu-Ekpeye community in Ahoada, while his body was recovered a few days later in the Ibrass forest, in the Ahoada West Local Government Area of the state.”
He further expressed his gratitude to Governor Fubara for keeping his word and redeeming the N100 million pledge to those who provided the information that led to the neutralization of 2Baba and the recovery of his corpse, which his gang had hidden.
Disu also thanked Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, for his support throughout the operation.
Disu highlighted the late Angbashin’s significant role in arresting the notorious criminal elements, who had terrorized motorists along the Akwa-Ibom section of the East-West Road.
Angbashin restored order to Bori and its surrounding areas by eliminating all forms of cultism when he was the Divisional Police Officer in Bori.
Due to his gallantry and operational expertise, Angbashin was transferred to the Ahoada Division to apprehend 2Baba.
Disu said, “He employed all his skills and experience to apprehend 2Baba and his associates alive and was on the verge of a breakthrough when he met the tragic event that resulted in his murder and dismemberment.”
Initially, the command struggled to recover Angbashin’s remains, but they eventually succeeded.
Receiving the casket containing the late DPO’s remains, the deceased’s elder brother, Dogo, expressed pride in his brother’s service to the nation.
Dogo remarked, “I’m here on behalf of the family and the good people of Nasarawa State to receive the remains of our late brother, SP Bako Angbashin.
“I thank the Rivers State Police Command, the CP in particular, and his men for their efforts to ensure that the killers of my late brother were brought to book and the extra effort to recover his body.”
