The Federal Road Safety Corps and the Ogun State Internal Revenue Service have proposed a partnership to enforce road taxes and ensure compliance with driver’s licence regulations.
According to The PUNCH, the Ogun State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Mr Akinwunmi Fasakin disclosed this during a courtesy visit to the Executive Chairman of OGIRS, Mr Olugbenga Olaleye, on Friday.
“We want to ensure that all drivers have valid licences and are paying the necessary fees,” said Mr Akinwunmi Fasakin, Ogun State Sector Commander of FRSC. “Our ‘Operation Show Me Your Driver’s Licence’ will require drivers to visit OGIRS to pay for their licences and clear backlogs.”
Mr Olugbenga Olaleye, Executive Chairman of OGIRS, expressed willingness to collaborate with FRSC, stating, “We aim to ensure all vehicle owners possess valid driver’s licences and pay appropriate fees to government coffers.”
The partnership seeks to address delays in issuing driver’s licence certificates and increase revenue for national development.
“This joint enforcement strategy is not intended to witch-hunt anyone but to generate funds for national development,” Olaleye added.
Mrs Oluyomi Dawodu, Director of Other Taxes at OGIRS, appealed for increased production of number plates to ensure availability for car owners.
The partnership demonstrates a commitment to enforcing policies and generating revenue for national development.
