At least four people have been confirmed dead following a head-on collision between a speeding Toyota Sienna and a tricycle at Famgbe 2, located on the Yenagoa-Oporoma road in Bayelsa State.
According to The PUNCH, eyewitnesses reported that the Toyota Sienna was heading towards Oporoma, while the tricycle was returning to Yenagoa when the accident happened after 7:00 pm on Monday.
The victims included the tricycle driver and his passengers, while all occupants of the Sienna emerged unscathed.
It was noted that heavy rainfall and poor visibility likely contributed to the accident, which occurred on a bend known for frequent mishaps.
The response from residents was delayed due to the rain and increasing darkness.
Although Bayelsa State enforces a ban on tricycle operations after 7:00 pm, it is common for some tricyclists to continue operating beyond this curfew, particularly outside Yenagoa, the state capital.
When contacted for comment, spokespsrson for the State Police Command, Musa Mohammed, stated he was not aware of the incident.
