A newly constructed two-storey building located at No 12 Cameroun Street, off Ewenla in the Mushin area of Lagos State, has collapsed.
The incident, which occurred on Wednesday, was precipitated by heavy rains that have caused widespread flooding throughout the state.
The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, confirmed the unfortunate event, reporting that at least seven individuals were rescued and taken to the hospital.
Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, the Permanent Secretary of LASEMA, Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, informed journalists that the rescued victims included three females and four males.
The rescue team has thoroughly searched the debris, confirming that no additional victims are trapped beneath the collapsed structure.
The affected area has since been cordoned off by the authorities to ensure public safety.
“The rescue team have searched the rubble and can confirm that there is no victim underneath the collapsed building. The area had been cordoned off,” the LASEMA boss said.
The torrential downpour in Lagos has significantly impacted various parts of the state, leading to severe flooding and exacerbating the situation in Mushin, Ibeju-Lekki, Oworoshoki, Oshodi and other areas in the state.
The heavy rains have overwhelmed drainage systems and submerged roads, contributing to the collapse of vulnerable structures like the building on Cameroun Street.
