A fire outbreak at an MTN booster station located within the University of Ibadan, Oyo State, caused significant damage in the early hours of Saturday.
According to The PUNCH, the incident, which occurred around 4 a.m. at the Faculty of Nursing, was reportedly triggered by an electrical surge.
Eyewitnesses recounted the event, with one stating, “The fire broke out suddenly in the early hours of the morning, causing panic among those nearby.”
Another source confirmed that the flames consumed vital telecommunications equipment, including a Mikano electrical generator and circuit board.
Special Adviser on Fire Services Reform to Governor Seyi Makinde and Chairman of the State Fire Services Agency, Moroof Akinwande confirmed the incident.
“The state Fire Service responded swiftly to the fire at the MTN booster station beside the Faculty of Nursing,” Akinwande stated.
He further explained that firefighters, led by Assistant Chief Fire Superintendent Olubunmi, arrived at the scene promptly.
“On arrival, we found the Mikano generator and electrical board engulfed in flames. Our team worked alongside the university’s fire marshals to completely extinguish the fire,” he said.
