Two adjacent residential structures in Ilorin were destroyed by a fire that started at a paint store on Saturday, destroying assets worth millions of naira.
According to The Punch, besides the paint shop, the fire also damaged five other businesses.
The spokesman for the Kwara Fire Service, Mr. Hassan Adekunle said, “a paint shop suddenly caught fire and destroyed two residential buildings built near it; a story building and a house.”
“In addition to the two residential buildings that were completely destroyed by the raging fire, five additional shops nearby were also impacted.
“Firefighters were able to put out the fire and stop it from spreading to other structures.”
He added that the flammable nature of the paint worsened the fire, which could have been put out sooner if witnesses and sympathizers had intervened.”
In order to prevent fire accidents, the director of the Kwara Fire Service, Mr. Falade Olumuyiwa, asked locals to turn off electrical appliances each time they leave their houses and before going to bed.
