A fire incident at Powerline Market, Aba, Abia State, has destroyed goods worth millions of naira.
According to a resident of the area, the fire started like smoke in one area of the market at about midnight before spreading to other parts.
Although the source of the fire was not determined, victims stated that combustible material stored in any portion of the market could have been to blame.
Agu Igwe, one of the casualties, claimed he received a phone call late at night from a friend informing him that his shop was on fire.
Igwe, who couldn’t hold back his tears when recounting the tragedy, lamented the fact that his burned-out business had lately been restocked.
Another seller stated that he obtained a loan from a local financial organisation in order to purchase items.
The plastic and scrap merchant regretted that the money from his weekend sales, which he kept in his shop, had been burned to ashes.
The victims requested financial aid from the Abia State Government and well-meaning individuals.
