Following a fire that destroyed a couple’s home, killing them along with their six children, the Sabon Gari neighborhood in Zaria, Kaduna State, was plunged into mourning.
According to The Punch, the fire incident occurred on Thursday at around 2am in the morning while the family members were asleep.
An unnamed source claimed that the heat from the dead family woke the neighbors, who came outside to put out the fire.
However, the source also claimed that they were unable to save the family members who were trapped inside.
“We didn’t see fire fighters until the family members were burned,” he continued.
He further listed the names of the family members to be Malam Rabiu Mohammed, the husband, and Fatima, his wife.
Others, he claimed, included the six kids: Rabiatu, Hauwa’u, Hindatu, Umar, Ibrahim the infant Abubakar.
The state’s police and government have not released any formal statements as the command’s spokesman, DSP Muhammad Jalige, has promised to come back to our correspondent.
However, he did not get back to our correspondent as of the time of filing this report.
