The Federal Government has announced the closure of Eko Bridge and its associated ramps for an eight-week period to facilitate crucial asphalt resurfacing work.
This was disclosed by the Federal Controller of Works in Lagos, Mrs. Olukorede Kesha, through a statement released on Saturday.
Mrs. Kesha explained that the Federal Ministry of Works will commence essential maintenance activities on the Eko Bridge and its ramps starting from 7:00 a.m. on Friday, September 20, until November 20.
The project aims to address the deterioration of the asphalt surface and improve overall road safety for commuters.
To minimize disruption, alternative routes have been designated for motorists. Mrs. Kesha advised drivers traveling to Lagos Island from Funsho Williams Avenue to use the service lane at Alaka to reach Costain and then access the Eko Bridge.
“The closure will be full at some sections of the bridge and partial at other sections,” she clarified, emphasizing that strategic closures will be implemented to facilitate the work while allowing some level of traffic flow.
The project involves the removal of the existing asphalt layer, known as milling, followed by the application of fresh asphalt on both the bridge and ramps.
“This critical project aims to improve road safety and enhance the driving experience of motorists. The work involves milling of the existing asphalt and relaying new asphalt on the bridge and Ramps. This will address wear and tear and ensure a smoother, safer roadway,” Mrs. Kesha added.
During this period, commuters are advised to plan their journeys accordingly to avoid potential delays and make use of the designated alternate routes.
The Federal Ministry of Works reassured the public that the inconvenience caused by the closure is necessary to achieve long-term benefits, ensuring a more durable and safer driving environment upon the project’s completion.
