The Federal Government, through the Rural Electrification Agency, has reiterated its commitment to providing dependable and long-lasting electricity to rural areas in Nigeria.
The REA Chairman, Danlami Kurfi, gave the assurance on Monday at the Usman Danfodiyo University in Sokoto during commissioning of a 2.0 MW solar hybrid power plant.
According to him, numerous business clusters, villages, schools, and hospitals would all be included in the REA plans.
While pointing out that REA was using the Energising Education Program to carry out its mandate in educational institutions, Kurfi also said that the organisation was prepared to work with both the public and private sectors to further the development and success of the electricity industry.
He said, “I am delighted to be here today as we commission this 2.0MW Solar Hybrid Power Project, together with its world class workshop and training center and solar powered streetlights under Energizing Education Programme (phase 1 which is being implemented by the Rural Electrification Agency.
“As the chairman, Governing Board of the REA, I will continue to use my office to ensure that we provide the leadership and oversight needed to enhance and advance increased investment, regulations, compliance, proper governance, and other issues that affects the power sector in Nigeria”.
The Vice Chancellor of Usman Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, Prof Lawal Bilbis, in his welcome address, said the university was privileged to have the Federal Government 2.0MW Solar Hybrid Power Plant, Renewable Energy Workshop/Training Center and Solar Powered Street light in their institution.
Prof. Bilbis reaffirmed that the facility was designed to support the university’s mission to address Nigeria’s developmental challenges through cutting edge research, knowledge transfer, and training. He pledged that the investment and expectations of the facility will be judiciously utilized, guarded, and protected.
