Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Nkeiruka Onyejeocha has said the Federal Government has ordered the closure of Metal Manufacturing Nig. Ltd, Sagamu, Ogun State, for allegedly operating in violation of safety rules and regulations.
According to the Nation, Onyejeocha disclosed this in a statement signed by her Special Adviser on Media, Emameh Gabriel, on Friday in Abuja during an ongoing nationwide inspection operation.
The Minister explained that the company was exposing workers to a number of hazards, including chemical substances, noise, and dust because it had refused to provide workers with the necessary safety equipment, such as masks, gloves, and boots.
Onyejeocha, who was accompanied by the Director, Occupational Safety and Health in the ministry, Lauretta Adogu, asserted that the government has concluded to go hard on erring companies operating in unsafe environments that put the lives of workers at risk.
Issuing warnings to other companies operating in the country, the Minister specifically read the riot act to the management of the company.
Onyejeocha described what she witnessed at the factory as horrible, noting that “despite several petitions against the company, they remain adamant.”
