The Federal Government on Monday started the renovation of the Federal Secretariat Complex Phase One in Abuja.
According to The News Agency of Nigeria, the project was flagged off by the Minister of the FCT, Malam Muhammad Musa Bello on Tuesday.
The Minister noted that the Federal Secretariat Complex, like many other public buildings in the FCT was constructed 30 years ago and required rehabilitation.
“This phase of what we are doing is just a tip of the iceberg in what needs to be done. We have to all work together to get funding to rehabilitate this building and all the other public buildings in Abuja”. he added.
Bello, who expressed concern about the level of abuse of public buildings in the FCT, also advocated for reforms to the existing procurement system for the maintenance of public facilities and suggested the establishment of a cadre of civil servants to oversee the maintenance of public buildings.
