The Federal Government of Nigeria has announced a ban on single-use plastics across all government offices, the latest move in the country’s efforts to tackle the plastic waste crisis and mitigate the effects of climate change.
The ban, which was approved during the Federal Executive Council meeting, is part of the government’s broader strategy to manage plastic waste and pollution.
According to Vanguard, the Minister of State for Environment, Iziaq Adekunle Salako, noted that plastic pollution remains a major issue in the country.
He added that the government is committed to addressing the challenges of climate change, biodiversity loss, and pollution.
He said, “This initiative demonstrates our commitment to addressing the triple threat of climate change, biodiversity loss, and pollution”.
The minister highlighted the severity of plastic pollution in Nigeria, describing it as “a major issue in our country”.
He also said the MDAs ban is a preparation towards tackling the menace of plastics across the country.
