The Federal Government of Nigeria has authorized three categories of fees Nigerians will be paying for verification of their National Identity Numbers to ensure a speedy process of their passports.
It was gathered that this new arrangement would take effect from April 1, as directed by the government to streamline passport application, renewal and issuance processes.
The Nation reported that Nigerians that want to procure the verification at home would begin to pay N1000 those within African countries would pay $5 and those from other countries would pay $15.
The Head of Corporate Communications of the National Identity Management Commission, Kayode Adegoke, in a statement, confirmed that the development was joint plan of the Nigerian Immigration Service.
He stressed further that the arrangements is “to significantly improve the quality of service, accuracy, and speed of passport services through the timely verification of the National Identification Number (NIN).”
Adegoke added,“This new arrangement is in furtherance of the Federal Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy’s directive to streamline passport application, renewal, and issuance processes.”
He said,“NIMC and NIS have agreed on a revised applicant journey that will significantly improve the speed of passport issuance/re-issuance and reduce the traffic visiting the NIS office(s). “
“The NIN service, fees, and the new NIS process will go live on 1st April 2023.”
