The Polish Football Federation terminated the contract of their national coach, Fernando Santos, after just eight months of his tenure.
This decision was made due to the team’s ongoing difficulties in securing qualification for the Euro 2024 finals.
Over the weekend, the Polish national football team suffered a 2-0 defeat against Albania, resulting in their current placement as the fourth-ranked team in Group E of the Euro 2024 qualifying stage. It is worth noting that only the top two teams in the group are assured a spot in the finals.
“The Polish football federation announces that Fernando Santos is no longer national coach as of September 13,” read a statement.
Recall that in December, Santos quit his job as coach of his home country, Portugal, after 10 years. In January, he became coach of Poland.
He was also in charge of the Greece national team from 2010 to 2014.
