Nine new judges for the court have been appointed, according to the Federal High Court.
This information was made public in a statement written by Catherine Oby Christopher, Assistant Director of Information for the Court.
The statement revealed that the Chief Judge of the Court, Justice John Terhemba Tsoho, made the appointment in accordance with his constitutional authority with the Chairman of the National Judicial Council, and the Chief Justice of Nigeria’s permission, Justice Olukayode Ariwoola.
Meanwhile, the appointments stand apart from the ongoing process for the appointment of the fifteen (15) judges who were already approved.
The statement further mentioned that the process for considering applicants for potential appointments to the Federal High Court bench for the states of Bayelsa, Ebonyi, Gombe, Ogun, and Oyo will shortly begin.
The statement read in part; “In line with the NJC Guidelines and Procedural Rules for Appointment of Judicial Officers of Superior Courts, the Honourable Chief Judge, therefore, invites Your Lordships, the Hon. Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice and the President, Nigerian Bar Association, to kindly nominate suitably qualified persons from the aforementioned states for appointment to the Federal High Court Bench.
“All recommendations are to reach the Chambers of the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court on or before 28 February 2023,” the statement added.
