The latest FIFA women’s world ranking announced on Friday has seen the Nigerian Super Falcons jumped eight spots, from number 40 to number 32.
The eleven-time African champions stayed atop the list compiled by the world football governing body to remain the best women’s national team in Africa.
The recent 2023 Women’s World Cup was a major contributor to the Falcons’ meteoric rise in the standings.
After starting the campaign with a tie against Canada, winning against the tournament co-hosts Australia, and tying the Republic of Ireland in their last group B encounter, the Nigerian squad advanced to the second round.
Falcons pushed eventual champions and winners England to a penalty shootout, but fell 4-2 in the second round.
Even though Spain won the World Cup in Australia, Sweden is currently ranked first in FIFA, with Spain moving up to second place from fourth.
The United States fell from second to third after being dethroned by the Scandinavians.
