The Managing Director of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku, has urged security personnel at Lagos airports to uphold professionalism in their duties.
She made this call during the launch of the “Operation Air Clean” initiative on Tuesday in Lagos.
Kuku expressed her displeasure over the persistent challenges arising from overlapping responsibilities and excessive security checks at the airport.
She emphasized that any security personnel found engaging in misconduct would face severe penalties.
Speaking to the heads of security agencies at Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Kuku highlighted the authority’s commitment to addressing unprofessional behavior.
She urged a swift resolution to the ongoing issues, stressing that such conduct was contributing to flight delays and disorder at the airport.
“Investors are complaining. Lagos Airport is their first impression of Nigeria, and it is unacceptable for that impression to be chaos and inefficiency,” Kuku stated.
She also voiced concern over certain interactions between security personnel and passengers, describing them as appalling.
“I have a very clear directive, it goes for the team leads, it goes for the Heads of Departments, and it goes for the heads of the organisations at the airport. If your organisation is found wanting, then it means that you as a leader have failed, and it means that I have failed, and this had better stop,” she emphasized.
Kuku also made it clear that the airport was no longer a place for agencies to seek personal financial gains, specifically addressing AVSEC. She called for collective action to enforce zero tolerance for misconduct.
