The Ogun State Police Command has launched an investigation into an explosion at Quantum Steel, situated along the Sagamu-Ikorodu Road in Ogijo.
The incident, which occurred on Wednesday, left seven workers—including three expatriates—seriously injured.
According to the state police spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, the explosion resulted from a machinery malfunction within the factory.
“The report indicates that on March 2, 2025, around 6:30 pm, a blast from one of the machines caused severe injuries to seven individuals, comprising both Nigerian and expatriate employees,” Odutola stated on Thursday.
Among those injured are four Nigerians: Daniel Bala, 28; Mutiu Olajide, 39; Godwin Solomon, 27; and Maduabuchi Onwe, 27. The three expatriates affected were identified as Ajun Kumar, 37; Chandan Kumar, 50; and Rakash Kumar, 30.
A staff member of the company, Joseph Adewale, reported the incident at the Ogijo Police Division. Following this, detectives were dispatched to the scene to conduct an initial assessment, take photographs, and gather evidence.
All injured workers were taken to Rolayo Hospital in Ikorodu, Lagos, where they are receiving medical care. “The victims are responding well to treatment,” Odutola assured.
The police emphasized the need for industries to prioritize safety measures to prevent similar occurrences. “A comprehensive investigation is ongoing to establish the exact cause of the explosion and ensure adherence to workplace safety regulations,” Odutola added.
