Former Super Eagles midfielder, Seyi Olofinjana, has criticized the length of the contract offered to Finidi George as the head coach of the Nigeria men’s national team.
Olofinjana expressed his displeasure during an interview on Supersports Monday Night Football.
Finidi was unveiled by the Nigeria Football Federation and signed a one-year contract with the option of another year.
The 53-year-old’s mandate is to ensure the Super Eagles secure a place at the 2026 FIFA World Cup and the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
Olofinjana argued that the one-year contract is insufficient for Finidi to achieve substantial results.
“I think it’s good we have an ex-international, someone who knows what playing for Nigeria is all about, as the Super Eagles head coach.
“But does he have a lot of experience at this level? But again, the Guardiola’s of this world started from somewhere.
“But then, can we all trust and support him? The appointment has been made, and there is no going back again.
“I think for me that trust has already been broken by giving the so-called young, inexperienced coach at this level a one-year contract. What is he going to do in a year?
“”If truly they believe in him what is happening to a four- or five-year contract and say come what may, we trust you, and whatever happens along the way, we’ll trust you,” he said.
