Former Rivers State Head of Service, George Nwaeke, has dismissed claims by his wife, Florence, that he was abducted.
Nwaeke clarified that he is in Abuja, where he voluntarily presented himself to security agencies amid ongoing political tensions in Rivers State.
In a video released early Saturday, Nwaeke refuted his wife’s allegations, suggesting she had been misled and given a statement to read.
“I am in TRANSCORP Abuja. I arrived this morning from Port Harcourt to meet with security agencies and report myself regarding troubling events in Rivers State. I resigned as Head of Service on Monday because of these developments,” Nwaeke stated.
Addressing his wife’s concerns, he continued, “I just saw a video of my wife trending. She was told I had been kidnapped and given a script to read. I want to make it clear—I am not kidnapped. I am in Abuja, working.”
Nwaeke further emphasized that Florence was not involved in his official duties, dismissing her claims as baseless.
“When I was Head of Service, my wife was not part of my responsibilities. That script she read is null and void. I am safe and sound. I will report myself to the appropriate security agencies because their headquarters are in Abuja, and I feel safer making my report here.”
Florence Nwaeke had earlier raised the alarm over her husband’s safety, expressing distress about his whereabouts following his resignation.
In an emotional interview on Friday, she stated that she found an online video of her husband suspicious, leading her to fear for his well-being.
“I said, ‘That is not my husband. That is not my husband,’” she recounted.
Desperate for answers, she detailed her attempts to reach him. “I sent him a message: ‘Are you under duress? Have they kidnapped you? Talk to me now. Why are you not responding?’ But he didn’t reply. His numbers are not going through. Nigerians, help me!”
Her concerns intensified after Nwaeke publicly accused Governor Siminalayi Fubara of orchestrating an attack on the Rivers State House of Assembly in 2023 to prevent his impeachment.
Nwaeke alleged that he personally witnessed a bag of money being handed to the former Assembly leader, Edison Ehie—now the Chief of Staff to Governor Fubara—to facilitate the attack on the Assembly Complex along Moscow Road, Port Harcourt.
