Former BBC presenter Huw Edwards has admitted to three counts of creating indecent images of children.
According to BBC, he entered his pleas during a brief session at Westminster Magistrates Court in London on Wednesday.
Edwards was apprehended in November 2023 and formally charged in June 2024.
The alleged offences, which occurred between 2020 and 2022, involved images shared on a WhatsApp chat, according to the Metropolitan Police. Edwards faced charges for possessing six category A images, the most severe type of indecent images, on a phone.
Additionally, he was accused of holding 12 category B pictures and 19 category C photographs.
The Metropolitan Police emphasized that these allegations were distinct from other claims investigated and reported widely last year. A police spokesperson clarified, “These allegations did not form part of the matter which was considered by police in July 2023. They were investigated separately as a standalone case.”
Edwards departed from the BBC in April. He was previously known as the corporation’s most prominent and highest-paid news anchor, regularly presenting on BBC One’s Ten O’Clock News and leading coverage of significant national events.
