A British publication, GiveMeSports, has revealed the Everton sold Super Eagles midfielder Alex Iwobi to Fulham due to poor financial situation.
The Nigerian international’s performance for the Toffees earned him a move to the London side this season on a five-year deal worth €22m.
It was gathered that Iwobi made 123 Premier League appearances for Everton in four seasons with the club, scoring six goals.
He was once named Player of The Season and helped the Toffees to avoid relegation for two consecutive seasons.
The former Arsenal star will have another opportunity to work with Portuguese manager Marco Silva again after their little time together at Goodison Park in 2019.
Speaking on his transfer, Iwobi revealed the reason he dumped Everton for a move to Fulham on transfer deadline day.
“Marco Silva spoke to me and told me about the ambitions of the club[Fulham], and where he wants to go,” Iwobi told the club’s official website.
“I’m on board, and I’m hoping I can bring something to Fulham. He wants to challenge for things, and I feel like he gave me the confidence boost. I hope I’m able to repay the faith.”Iwobi told the club’s official website.
Iwobi joined fellow Nigerian international Calvin Bassey in the Fulham squad and their addition could help the club secure a place in Europe next season.
